Collection of records concerning the financial controversy between Mississippi and Alabama Territories and States, 1816-1830.

This collection of records consists of correspondence and financial statements which concern the financial controversy of the Miss. Territory and the State of Miss. with the Ala. Territory and the State of Ala. There was difficulty in the settlement of the funds of the treasury of Miss. upon the formation of the Ala. Territory out of the eastern section of the Miss. Territory. The first part of this collection consists of instructions for the surveying of public lands in the Ala. Territory, with descriptions of townships and range boundaries. The bulk of this collections consists of correspondence files of the Miss. and Ala. Executive Departments: the Miss. Governors include David Holmes and George Poindexter; the Ala. Governors include William Wyatt Bibb, Thomas Bibb, Israel Pickens, and John Murphy. Also included are financial statements pertaining to the balancing of the accounts of the Treasury from the Miss. Auditor of Public Accounts and a memorial from the Legislature of the State of Miss. to the U.S. Congress concerning the extension of the Miss. boundary line into Chickasaw Indian land.
